JOEST Australia has been awarded a major contract for the PLS P2000 Expansion Project. The contract, from Pilgangoora Operations Pty Ltd, includes the supply of vibrating screens, feeders and a primary grizzly for the hard rock lithium mine in Western Australia.
Following completion of the P1000 Expansion Project in 2025, Pilgangoora already has the capacity to produce up to 1 Mt of spodumene concentrate per annum. In October 2026, PLS approved the A$1.9 billion P2000 Project, which will increase Pilgangoora’s annual spodumene concentrate production capacity to approximately 2 Mt/y.
It involves construction of a new processing plant, Jimmagunya, with first production expected in the September quarter of 2029. The new Jimmagunya processing plant will be built alongside the existing Pilgan plant, becoming the operation’s third major processing facility. Named by Nyamal elders, Jimmagunya means “a spring country.”
The project will enable approximately 67 Mt of mineralised material previously classified as waste to be economically recovered as ore, supporting higher future production rates and a larger Ore Reserve. Ore sorting and whole-of-ore flotation will bring more material into the mine plan, reducing the life-of-mine strip ratio from 7.7x to 5.6x. The new plant will include a 9 Mt/y dry plant with crushing, ore sorting and covered coarse ore stockpile; and a 6.3 Mt/y wet plant including grinding, magnetic separation, whole-of ore flotation and tantalum recovery.
The package comprises a total of 39 units, JOEST Australia says engineered to support reliable, efficient and high-capacity material handling and screening in demanding mining conditions. This award builds on its involvement in previous Pilgangoora expansion projects and JOEST’s long-term support capabilities.
“This is the largest single order by value in JOEST Australia’s 25-year history, and we are extremely pleased to continue our relationship with PLS. This award reflects the confidence placed in our engineering capability, equipment performance and ability to deliver reliable solutions for demanding mining applications,” said Steve Clifford, Managing Director, JOEST Australia.
Developed through close collaboration and the experience it has gained from supporting the Pilgangoora Operation over many years, JOEST Australia added that the equipment package incorporates ongoing design and service-life improvements to deliver lasting value.
JOEST Australia is a subsidiary company of JÖST GmbH + Co KG in Dülmen, Germany and is based in a purpose-built facility located in Kenwick, Western Australia. It is also the group’s global centre of competence for mining, and as such plays a strategic role in supporting the global operations through the development and deployment of best practices, advanced technologies, and specialised knowledge in mining applications.
